Rediscovering Identity and Healing: The New Chapter of This Adoptee Life

November 16, 2024

After a long hiatus, I’m excited to return to This Adoptee Life—a platform for adoptees focused on rediscovering identity, healing, and overcoming adoption-related trauma. What started as a space to share my story has become a vibrant community where adoptees come together to share theirs. As we prepare to embark on a new chapter centered on rediscovering identity, finding inner peace, and moving beyond fear and anger, it feels fitting to reflect on the journey that brought us here.

Reflecting on the Journey of This Adoptee Life

Looking back through the archives, I’m reminded of the powerful conversations we’ve shared. In posts like My Adoption Story According to My Adoption Papers and My Story Without the Word Adoption, I shared raw, often messy emotions that many adoptees experience. These pieces became a starting point for my own healing journey, and I hope they have helped other adoptees feel seen and understood.

For those just joining this community, I encourage you to explore foundational posts such as How to Tell Your Adoptee Story. In that post, I broke down how to share personal journeys in ways that feel authentic and empowering—a concept that resonates deeply within the adoptee experience. For longtime readers, consider revisiting Connecting the Dots: 5 Things the Adoptee in Me Does Exceptionally Well. In this reflection, I explore how recognizing early childhood trauma has provided clarity and empowerment, offering validation and hope to fellow adoptees navigating similar paths.

Embracing the Next Chapter: Themes of Healing and Hope

As we shift towards themes of healing and hope, I want to honor the roots of This Adoptee Life. This space has always been about more than adoption—it’s about community, understanding, and the freedom that comes from reclaiming our narratives.

Starting next month, we’ll introduce monthly themes like Healing Beyond the Primal Wound and Overcoming Adoption-Related Trauma. Each week will explore subtopics and provide resources designed to guide you toward inner peace and freedom. We’re also excited to offer workshops, guided journaling prompts, and e-books to deepen your healing journey.

I was adopted from Medellin, Colombia to Sweden in 1985. I was about a year and a half when I started my life as an adoptee, and it would take 32 years until I was ready to face what that means, what that has always meant, and what that will always mean.
