A Piece of My Writing: (Writing my feelings and experience in third person…) A Long Way From Home…Who is She?

October 26, 2018

A long way from home.

A home she never got to know.

A long way from her mother.

A mother who she never got to see.

Her lonely heart is aching to be reunited.

Without a map or compass, in what direction does she turn?

The chaos of thoughts and emotions are too much sometimes.

She did not ask for this.

Any of it.

A long way from her culture.

A culture she never got to be a part of.

A long way from her history.

A history she never got to participate in.

Her confused mind is making her question everything.

Without a name, a place, a date, where does she start to search?

The doubts and frustration are growing stronger every day.

She can’t give up.

She won’t.

A long way from her family.

A family she never got to bond with.

A long way from her country.

A country she never got to grow up in.

She is sad.

She is angry.

She is hurt.

She is lost.

Who is she?

I was adopted from Medellin, Colombia to Sweden in 1985. I was about a year and a half when I started my life as an adoptee, and it would take 32 years until I was ready to face what that means, what that has always meant, and what that will always mean.
